boringとbored・・・

「私はうんざりしている。」と言いたい時

誤"I am boring" 正"I am bored"

日本人のおかし易い、もっともこっけいな間違いの一つに形容詞 "boring" "bored" の混同があります。　Boringはつまらない物や人を説明するのに使われ、否定的な意味があります。"I am boring"は「私はつまらない人間だ。」ということになり、こんなことを言えば笑われてしまいます。

自分自身の感情を述べる（私はうんざりしている）には、"I am bored"を使わなければなりません。

語尾が"-ing"、"-ed"で終わる形容詞はたくさんあります boring/ bored, exciting/ excited, tiring/ tired など、これらの語尾がedで終わる形容詞は感情を表現するのに使用され、一般 的に人に対して使います。

"The game was excited."や"The movie was bored"はよくあるミスで、"The game was exciting.""The movie was boring."でなければなりません。

語尾が"-ing" で終わる形容詞は感情の原因をひきおこすものに対して使われます。もし一冊の本があなたに興味を持たせたのであれば、その本は感情の原因となりますから"The book is interesting."と言うことができます。

[追記]
interest（～に興味を起こさせる）、surprise（驚かす）、excite（興奮させる）、bore（うんざりさせる）、tire（疲れさせる）などは、いやな動詞ですね。 受身にすると日本語としてしっくりいくんですから・・・・

The movie interests me.
I am interested in the movie.
The movie is interesting to me.

この例からもわかるように、主語が人なら-ed. 物なら-ingと覚えておけばだいたい間違いはないですね。

I AM BORING

One of the funniest and most common mistakes Japanese make is to confuse the adjectives "boring" and "bored." "Boring" is used to describe something or someone you don't find interesting, and it has a negative nuance. But "I am boring" will make other people laugh! To describe your own feeling, you must say "I am bored".

There are many pairs of adjectives with "-ing" and "-ed" endings: boring/bored, exciting/excited, tiring/tired, etc. In general, these "-ed" adjectives are used to describe a feeling, and are therefore used for people. "The game was excited" or "The movie was bored" are common mistakes. The "-ing" adjectives are used for the cause of a feeling. If a book makes you feel interested then it is the cause of your feeling, and so you can say "The book is interesting.
